At our dental practice Finest Smile in Zurich, the preservation of natural teeth is our top priority. Nevertheless, it can happen for various reasons that one or more teeth are lost. In this case, a dental implant is a permanent and aesthetically pleasing replacement. Modern dental implants are modeled on the natural tooth in every detail. They not only replace them visually, but also restore their functionality.

In Zurich, we offer you high-quality dental implants made of titanium and ceramic (zirconium oxide). Both materials have proven to be a reliable and long-lasting solution over the last few decades. In general, with a survival rate of 98% after 10 years, dental implants are an extremely durable and safe dental prosthesis that will replace your natural tooth for a lifetime in the best case scenario.

Frequently asked questions about implantology Zurich

A dental implant consists of three parts. The implant body (titanium or ceramic) replaces the natural tooth root and is anchored in the jawbone in the same way as the root. A ceramic implant crown or other superstructure (as desired) is precisely inserted into the implant body and securely fixed with a fixing screw. The screw-retained design allows the dentist to remove the prosthesis for cleaning/repair/extension in a new denture situation, for example.

Dental implants can be useful as replacements for lost teeth and as anchors for dentures. If, for example, a restoration with conventional, tooth-supported bridges is not possible or sensible, implants can serve as a support for the bridge.

We also use dental implants in Zurich for patients with edentulous jaws who want a fixed prosthesis. In this case, the denture is anchored using several implants (e.g. four implants per jaw with the All-on-4 concept). Dentures can also be stabilized well in the edentulous jaw with press studs (locators).

In general, our patients are able to work and socialize again the day after the dental implantation. However, you should take it easy for a few more days and avoid physically strenuous activities. You can resume sport after about a week.

After implantation, the dental implant must heal in the bone. The healing phase usually takes around 3 (- 6) months. After successful implant healing, the implant can be restored with a screw-retained ceramic implant crown, for example.

With high primary stability and good bone quality, some implants can also be restored with an implant ceramic crown immediately after surgery.

The costs of a dental implant are only covered by health insurance in exceptional cases. The costs may be covered, for example, after a dental accident, in the case of malformations of the jaw or if a tumor is present.

What material is a dental implant made of?

At our dental practice Finest Smile in Zurich, we use dental implants made of titanium and zirconium oxide (ceramic). Titanium implants have been used for decades and have proven themselves in practice as well as in clinical studies. Titanium is durable, stable and forms a secure bond with the bone. Titanium is also characterized by its high biocompatibility, which means that it is well tolerated by the body. Titanium implants often prove to be the more suitable solution because there are more dental design options when restoring with ceramic teeth.

Despite the good compatibility of titanium, some patients prefer a metal-free dental solution with a holistic approach. A dental implant made of zirconium oxide may be the better choice, especially for allergy sufferers and patients interested in biological dentistry. Ceramic implants are completely metal-free and are therefore also ideal for patients with a corresponding sensitivity. Another advantage is that the color of the dental implant is based on the natural tooth root so that no dark metal can shine through under the gums. This aspect can be particularly important in the visible front tooth area.

Our dentists will be happy to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both materials with you in detail. You will receive comprehensive advice on which material is better suited to your specific situation. Our aim is to provide you with a dental prosthesis that is as close as possible to your natural tooth in terms of appearance and function.

Highest quality dental implants

At our finest smile dental practice in Zurich, we only use high-quality Swiss materials and instruments that have proven themselves in international dentistry over the long term. This enables us to meet the quality requirements of our patients and guarantee a high level of safety in our dental treatments. We mostly use Swiss implant systems from the world market leader Straumann (Basel, CH).

Straumann high-end dental implants are characterized by their first-class quality, such as their patented surface coating for faster bony healing. Depending on the individual complexity, gums and bone availability, the costs including the custom-Swiss-made, screw-retained all-ceramic implant crown vary between CHF 4,500 and CHF 5,000 including bone augmentation.

How does a dental implantation in Zurich work?

Detailed planning takes place in Zurich before dental implantation. Images of your jaw are taken, whereby we work primarily with modern 3D X-ray technology (DVT). Using the 3D images, the dentist can precisely determine the position for each dental implant in advance. The images also provide valuable information on bone density and bone volume. This is important to ensure that the implants are held securely in the jawbone.

Dental implantation can normally be performed under local anesthesia. Treatment with nitrous oxide sedation or general anesthesia is also possible on request. We will be happy to advise you personally.

After the treatment area has been anaesthetized, the dentist carefully opens a small region of the gum in a minimally invasive procedure and prepares the local bone to receive the dental implant. The dental implant is inserted securely and firmly into the optimal position in the jawbone through a 3-5mm small, precisely fitting opening. The gums are closed again over the implant and the sutures are removed a week later. The dental implant now heals into the bone within a few months.

What needs to be considered after dental implantation?

After your dental implant has been inserted, you should take it easy physically for a few days. The treatment sites should be cleaned thoroughly and carefully. We recommend that you avoid hard and acidic foods for the first few days. In general, however, you are not restricted in eating and drinking. In the event that slight wound pain occurs, we will prescribe you an analgetic medication.

The stitches are removed approximately 7 - 10 days after the dental implantation. The dentist checks once again that the wound is healing without complications. After 3 - 6 months, the dental implant has completely healed into the jawbone and we can insert your beautiful ceramic implant tooth.
