Dark tooth discolouration can severely impair the appearance of teeth, particularly in the visible anterior region. Reasons for discolouration can include colouring foods such as coffee or red wine, but also nicotine and natural metabolic processes. Many people feel uncomfortable as a result and avoid showing their teeth when smiling. We offer effective bleaching methods in Zurich so that this is not the case for you and you can smile carefree. Teeth are gently whitened using biological, well-tolerated materials. The result is visibly whiter teeth that beautifully emphasise your smile.

Frequently asked questions about bleaching in Zurich

The bleaching itself is carried out using gentle methods and is therefore not painful. Teeth may be more sensitive in the days following bleaching, but this usually subsides quickly. The teeth should be fluoridated after power bleaching. We recommend Oral Care Relief Gel or GC Tooth Mousse for this purpose. This forms a calcium fluoride coating on the tooth surface, including the exposed tooth necks and the exposed dentinal tubules, so that the discomfort is reduced. However, if these symptoms persist for longer than three days, please contact us.

You should plan around 2 hours for a power bleaching in Zurich. Depending on how much you would like to have your teeth whitened, the bleaching can be repeated as required.

The durability of tooth whitening varies from person to person and also depends on lifestyle habits. As a rule, you can expect it to last for several years . It is important to maintain thorough, regular dental hygiene and moderate consumption of strongly colouring foods.

Professional bleaching at the dentist is not harmful. At our dental practice in Zurich, we work with biological, well-tolerated materials to offer you additional safety. After tooth whitening, we seal the tooth surfaces so that they are optimally protected against external influences.

If you would like to have your teeth whitened again at a later date, this is possible without any problems. As a rule, however, the treatment results last for several years, so that no refresher treatment is necessary during this period.

Fillings or ceramic restorations such as crowns and bridges cannot be bleached with bleaching. These must therefore be replaced in the visible area in order to achieve an optimal result.

Who is bleaching suitable for?

We offer bleaching in Zurich for all patients who are unhappy with their tooth colour and would like to have their teeth whitened. As we use particularly gentle and well-tolerated materials in our dental practice, tooth whitening can be recommended almost without reservation.

A prerequisite for bleaching is that caries and other diseases are treated in advance. Any planned or existing dentures must also be taken into account when planning treatment, as otherwise colour deviations may occur after bleaching.

As part of a brief preliminary examination, your dentist will discuss with you whether bleaching is possible in your case without restrictions or whether preparatory steps should still be carried out.

How does a power bleaching in Zurich work?

If you are considering tooth whitening, we will first invite you to a short preliminary examination. Your dentist will check the condition of your teeth in detail and then discuss with you whether power bleaching can be carried out. Existing tooth damage, caries or other diseases may need to be treated before bleaching. A professional teeth cleaning will also be carried out beforehand. A photo of your current tooth colour is taken to document the bleaching. We then determine your individual treatment goal together based on a colour assessment.

Bleaching in Zurich takes about two hours if you want to have all your teeth whitened. To protect the gums, lips and particularly sensitive teeth, a cover is applied first. This ensures that only the teeth to be treated come into contact with the bleaching agent. The whitening substance is then applied to the teeth and activated by light irradiation. You can relax while the whitening agent takes effect. A maximum of 4 sessions of 15 minutes each are carried out. Once the bleaching process is complete, we seal your teeth to protect them from external influences. The results of the treatment are then discussed with you and photographed.

You can check your new tooth colour directly in the mirror and leave our practice with a radiant smile.

How does home bleaching work in Zurich?

With home bleaching, the dental technician produces bleaching trays for personal use at home and as required. The bleaching agent can be reordered from us again and again as required.

Firstly, we check your teeth and carry out a professional dental cleaning at our finest smile practice. Our dental technician will then make customised trays for your upper and lower jaw. Our dentists will inform you in detail about the use of the bleaching trays. You can take the trays home with you and whiten your teeth yourself. How long and how often you need to use the trays depends on the initial situation, the bleaching gel concentration and the desired result. We generally recommend using the trays for 4-6 hours a day or even at night. You will notice a radiant white colour on your teeth after just a few days.

Home bleaching whitens your teeth within a short time and is a favourable alternative to power bleaching. Our dentists will be happy to advise you individually and in detail on the procedure and costs of home bleaching in Zurich.

What needs to be considered after bleaching?

So that you can enjoy your radiant white smile for as long as possible, you should avoid colouring foods for the time being after bleaching. If possible, you should remove the following foods from your diet for the next 2 weeks:

  • Red wine, grape juice, black, rooibos and green tea, coffee, cola
  • Carrots, beetroot, peppers, spinach, tomatoes, berries, cherries, grapes
  • Ketchup, mustard, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, saffron, curry, turmeric

Instead, you should follow a "white diet" and only eat white foods such as yoghurt, milk, quark, water, cauliflower, celery, turkey, fish, rice and white flour products (e.g. white bread, toast, semolina porridge, pasta, etc.).

Smoking should also be avoided in the first few days after bleaching. For long-lasting treatment results, it is advisable to stop smoking completely.

You should also ensure thorough and regular dental and oral hygiene at home as well as regular professional dental cleanings, especially if you consume a lot of coffee, tea, red wine or nicotine.
