Braces are a proven classic for correcting misaligned teeth and jaws. In Zurich, we work with various models to effectively correct misalignments of different kinds. In addition to classic fixed and removable braces, it is also worth taking a look at invisible braces for adult patients. If you would like to integrate the treatment inconspicuously into your everyday life, this option may be of interest to you.

We would be happy to advise you personally on braces treatment in Zurich. As part of a non-binding initial examination, we will discuss with you which treatment options are possible

Frequently asked questions about braces Zurich

We use braces in Zurich to correct misaligned jaws and teeth if they cause health problems or result in an aesthetic problem. In children, braces are also used as a preventative measure to prevent foreseeable misalignments from occurring in the first place.

We can correct almost all tooth misalignments and bite positions with braces in Zurich. Typical areas of application are crooked, twisted or protruding teeth, a disturbed bite or a lack of space in the jaw (crowding).

Inserting and wearing braces is generally painless. Slight pressure pain may occur in the beginning. Temporary increased sensitivity of the teeth is also possible.

With modern treatment methods, tooth extraction is usually no longer necessary nowadays. However, each situation must be considered individually. At our dental practice, we always keep your health in mind and decide on the most sensible long-term approach.

Correcting teeth with braces is low-risk, as the teeth are moved very slowly.

In the beginning, slight pressure pain or inflammation in the mouth may occur. Initial speech problems are also quite normal until the patient has become accustomed to the braces.

Fixed braces can increase the risk of tooth decay as they cannot be removed for cleaning. Particular attention should therefore be paid to thorough dental hygiene.

Removable braces do not restrict the patient from eating and drinking, as they can be removed temporarily. Clear braces (Invisalign) also fall into this category.

In general, patients can eat and drink as usual with fixed braces. Only very hard foods should be chopped up beforehand if possible so as not to damage the braces. Sticky and sugary foods should also be avoided.

Whether and to what extent pronunciation is affected depends on the type of braces. However, patients usually get used to the new situation quickly. After a few days to weeks, the braces are usually no longer perceived as a nuisance.

What types of braces are there?

Fixed braces
Fixed braces are firmly attached to the teeth for the entire duration of treatment. To do this, we place small retaining elements - known as brackets - on the surfaces of the teeth. The brackets are connected to each other via wire arches.

Removable braces
The removable or loose braces can be removed for eating and brushing teeth. This makes dental care much easier.

Invisible braces / Aligners
Invisible braces are not visible from the outside and are therefore ideal for correcting the teeth of adults. The braces are either made of transparent plastic (Invisalign or Spark) or are fixed to the inside of the teeth (lingual braces).

Lingual braces
Lingual braces are fixed braces that are attached to the inside of the teeth. This makes them invisible from the outside.

How does tooth correction with braces work in Zurich?

In an initial examination, we first document your current dental situation. Once the orthodontist has carefully examined the condition of your jaw and teeth, they will work with you to create a suitable treatment plan. He will also take into account your habits and wishes, for example with regard to your everyday working life.

Using impressions of your upper and lower jaw, the braces are custom-made. The orthodontist inserts the brace and makes any necessary adjustments. From now on, you will wear your braces around the clock if possible. The progress of the treatment and the fit of the braces are checked regularly in Zurich.

As soon as the treatment result has been achieved, the so-called retention phase begins. Here we stabilize the results with fixed retainers or removable retention braces. These hold the teeth in position and prevent them from moving back.

How long must the braces be worn?

The duration of wearing braces depends on the age of the patient and the extent of the misalignment. During the initial examination, we will discuss with you how long the braces are likely to have to be worn. The subsequent retention phase can also vary. In general, we recommend wired, fixed retainers as the method of your choice for the retention of teeth. Removable Aligners for retention is an alternativ option.
