Many people are unhappy with the position of their teeth but are reluctant to have them corrected because they don't want to wear visible braces. Aligner treatment is one way of optimising the position of teeth in a discreet and comfortable way.
By regularly changing the transparent plastic splints, known as aligners, the teeth are gradually brought into the desired position. The aligners are virtually invisible and can be removed when eating and for cleaning.
At our practice in Zurich, we offer you the high-quality Spark™ aligner system as a cost-effective alternative to Invisalign®. These customised aligners are fitted by your dentist and enable precise correction of the teeth.
Our experienced doctors in Zurich will be happy to advise you on aligner treatment and tell you whether the Spark™ aligners are suitable for you and your circumstances.
Frequently asked questions about aligner treatment in Zurich
How long does it take for an aligner treatment to be completed?
The duration of the wearing period depends on the severity of the deformity. Depending on how severe it is, the treatment can last from a few months to two years.
Does wearing aligners affect my pronunciation?
Wearing the aligners may feel unfamiliar at first. However, once you get used to them, you should not notice any change in your pronunciation.
What do I need to bear in mind when eating and drinking with the Spark™ mouthguard?
The Spark™ aligners can be removed for mealtimes. This means that you can continue to eat and drink normally throughout your treatment. However, it is important that you clean your teeth and aligners thoroughly before reinserting them.
How do I care for my aligners?
To clean your aligners, you can use a toothbrush, some toothpaste and lukewarm water. In addition to daily cleaning, it is recommended to treat the aligners once a week with a special cleaning fluid. Be careful not to use hot water, as this could lead to deformation of the aligners.
Can aligners also be used with crowns or bridges?
As a rule, aligners in Zurich can be used with existing crowns without any problems. If you have a bridge, your dentist will first carry out a comprehensive examination and then discuss with you whether treatment with aligners is possible.
Do transparent braces cause pain?
The aligners from Spark™ have been developed to offer a high level of wearing comfort and are basically painless. Of course, the aim of the aligners is to move the teeth, which can occasionally lead to a slight feeling of pressure. This occurs particularly in the first few days and after changing the aligners. However, if you wear your aligners consistently, the discomfort should be minimal.
What measures need to be taken after aligner treatment?
Once the treatment in Zurich is complete, the aligners are replaced with retainers to ensure that the teeth do not shift again. Depending on the individual situation, either fixed wire retainers or removable retention splints can be used. If you have received the latter, it is important to follow the recommended wearing time exactly to ensure the success of the treatment in the long term.
Is it possible for health insurance to cover the cost of the aligners?
The costs of aligner treatment are not normally covered by basic health insurance. However, if you have supplementary health insurance, there is a chance of full or partial reimbursement depending on your health insurance.
What are aligners?
Aligners are transparent plastic splints that are used to correct misaligned teeth. They are also known as invisible braces as, unlike conventional braces, they are virtually unnoticeable to others. This makes them particularly attractive for working adults and young people with high aesthetic demands. Unlike fixed braces, aligners do not have to be worn permanently, but are replaced regularly. Each new pair of aligners moves the teeth further in the direction of the desired position. The patient can change the aligners largely independently, which means that only a few check-up appointments are necessary.
What are the advantages of the Spark™ aligners?
The Spark™ aligners have all the advantages of modern aligner therapy. They are virtually invisible, comfortable to wear and can be easily removed for eating or cleaning, which does not greatly affect everyday life. Spark™ aligners have been specially developed to enable efficient and pain-free movement of the teeth. The innovative TruGEN™ material makes the aligners even more transparent and ensures particularly effective treatment thanks to continuous force transmission.
Procedure of an aligner treatment
Before your aligner treatment begins, we will carry out a thorough preliminary examination in Zurich. Your dentist will take a 3D scan of your teeth in order to plan the treatment precisely. This allows you to visualise the result of your tooth correction in advance.
As soon as your aligners arrive in Zurich, the first pair of aligners will be fitted by the dentist. You will then wear these aligners for around 1 - 2 weeks and can then switch to the next pair independently. Regular check-ups are used to check that the clear aligners fit correctly and to record the progress of the treatment.
